For the last two years, our community garden has supplied produce for the lunch program at the Academy for G.O.D.--and it's been amazing. We would now like to do more and provide food for two other local public schools, two after-school programs, and our summer camp.
One issue: we need more growing space.
Our plan is to develop the acre of land just below our current plot, and move our farm here in the spring of 2018. This will more than double our growing capacity!
To help us meet this need, we have applied for the 2017 USDA Farm-to-School grant. If awarded, the USDA will contribute 75% of the total project cost up to $100,000! In order to be eligible to receive the full amount for this project, we would need to raise $35,000 of matching funds. (No worries, if we do not receive the grant, that $35,000 will still go towards this project.)
The new garden site is in need of tree clearing, excavation, grading, irrigation, greenhouses, facilities, and more. Though the scope of this expansion project is large, we feel confident that the Lord has prepared us for it.
Our garden was initially launched by the faithful generosity of individuals who believed in our mission. As this year comes to an end, we ask you to please consider helping us meet this goal! When we all come together to sow even the smallest of seeds, amazing things can be produced!
