Back to School!

It's back to school and I am SO excited to be back at the Academy for G.O.D! After the first two days, I can just tell it's going to be a great year!

I wanted to introduce myself to you. My name is Ashley Moore and I'll be your child's Lead Teacher this year. As Lead Teacher I will be your point of contact throughout this school year  about anything - the academic schedule, behavior or just general logistical questions. Feel free to ask me anything. If I don't know the answer, I'll do my best to find it out for you or point you in the right direction.

I've been teaching for the last three years at the Academy. I regard it a privilege to teach my students to not just know information, but to really be formed by God's word and the gifts he's given to each and every one of them. My favorite subject to teach is Language Arts. In college, my minor was in Literacy and Education. I enjoy helping students to not only become a better readers but to also have a love for reading (there's a difference!). Another fun fact: I'm newly married (celebrating one year of marriage this October)!

Enough about me! The students had a wonderful two half-days to kick off the year right. We joined together with Mr. Munoz's homeroom for social games and activities. I've posted pictures below with captions...I'll let those speak for themselves!

The group played Codenames, a social board game that challenges students with word association and collaboration as a team. Justice and River were the "spymasters" and gave secret clues to the rest of their teams. Everyone had a great time!

Mr. Munoz taught students the song "Father, I Adore You" during Beginnings (our first block of the day). This will be something we implement quite often for this class block - opening up the day in prayer and worship to the Lord.

Ipad. Check! Markers. Check! Keyboard. Check! :) Students did their own school supply assessments, making sure they had everything they need to be successful for this school year.

Students created Keynote presentations about other students in the class and their top three interests. Then several students volunteered to present their findings to the entire class. Here is Desmond talking about his new classmate Diego, whose favorite activity is playing soccer!
