The first couple days of school. Always full of surprises, new faces, a few nerves, and as always, a lot of laughs. These focus level students really have a lot of potential. They've got a really nice dynamic. We have 9 returning students and 5 new students. Our returners are Justice, Kiah, Elliott, Uma, Moriah, Asher, Leif, Asher, and Jonathan. The new students are Desmond, Diego, Porter, Josiah, and Neveya. Our 'get to know ya' exercises were so full of energy. Every new student seemed recognized and appreciated. This is no small blessing for a new kid, in a new school. We found out favorite nick names, family sizes & siblings, favorite foods, and interests of their peer students. Every student created keynote presentations on their iPads and stood in front of the class to present a friend and their interests (ask your kid to show you their work, they'll love it). Days like this are only possible, in my opinion, because these students are learning to value, and DO the Word of God.
Our first scripture of the year was introduced in our special assembly on Thursday by Mr. Grant Dailey, as he lighted how God's Word Illuminates our lives from Psalm 119:103-105,
"How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
I gain understanding from your precepts;
therefore I hate every wrong path.
Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path."
When students who have never learned in the context of a school, can feel loved, can find smiles, and feel part of a family in a matter of hours...the Lord is illuminating a very good hospitable place.
I am very excited to take part in guiding these students to appreciate the Word of God and the sweet fruit that can come from doing it. These young people are going to have a thirst for learning and a hunger to do the right thing to make the Lord proud!
