Below are the thoughts of a few of the summer interns that spent the last three months serving the body of Christ, as they learned more about who they are. Keep in mind these are only 6 of the 18 interns who participated.
Nathan Cameron, 20 - Nashville, TN
This summer was an amazing experience. I learned how truly freeing life in the Spirit can be through fellowship with brothers and sisters in other cultures. Their constant dependence on the Lord is truly a testimony to their faith and an example for others to follow. Through them I learned that Jesus wants more that just admiration…He wants my entire life and my full dependence. I left the summer internship realizing that there are many things the Lord wants to do and that I will be spending the rest of my life listening for His voice and obeying.
Rylan Aaseby, 19 - Antioch, TN
This summer was not easy, it was an average of 8 hours of bible studies a day, sleeping at most 6 hours a night on concrete after long hours of fellowship with the people of Mexico, Kenya, Uganda, and England. But, if there was one thing I could change, it would be that I had a picture perfect memory to be able to look back and see the times where the Lord used me to touch others and plant seeds. But I must say that the people blessed me more than I could have blessed them, and I thank God for opening my eyes to see the people without pity or feeling sorry for them but to crave the deeply intimate relationship they have with their only and desired supply, Jesus.
Rachel Brian, 21 - Murfreesboro, TN
My expectations for the summer included my desire for a greater understanding of the love my Father has for me. The Lord overwhelmed me so many times with His love, but the part I didn’t expect was that it would come through people. From the servants in Mexico to my precious friend Patrice, saying of AIDS in Jamaica, the joy of children, and the love from the other interns, I couldn’t escape what the Lord was showing me. I am still learning this truth that Jesus loves us, needs us, and wants us to experience Him as we love each other.
Stephen Ownby, 19 - Knoxville, TN
The people all around the world in Mexico, Jamaica, Kenya, Uganda, and London are absolutely beautiful. In all of these places the people touched my life, and helped me to grow and see more of Jesus. I really know what love is, and it’s the biggest part of my testimony. Love is what my life is all about. I love love, and love is only found in Christ. Praise Jesus for loving us.
Derek Bargatze, 22 - Mt. Juliet, TN
This summer was the summer of the Lord. He not only gave me my future wife (Celesta Cox), but also showed me where we will be serving him as full time missionaries with G.O.D. Int’l. We have no doubt in our minds that God wants us to serve in Mwea, Kenya and we feel honored to do so. This summer was incredible. It was full of Jesus making Himself known through us and making His will know to all His children. Relationships were built and we were broken.
Rachel Nowlin, 18 - Breckenridge, MN
I always thought that I knew Jesus, but this summer I realized that talking about it isn’t enough. You have to also live it. For the first time I started talking less and living for Jesus more. Every day I grew in my love for Jesus and he became more real. I guess that I never realized how powerful the Bible is and that it truly is a living book and we can still see events that happened in the Bible happen today. I also learned that Jesus is alive! He talks to me, answers my prayers, and gives me peace in the midst of chaos. My life is truly not the same since Jesus became Lord of my life, and I’m so excited to serve Him for the rest of my life.
