Blue class had a wonderful first week of our new schedule. They came into class on Monday excited to be back at school after all the snow days and eager to see what their new schedule would bring. They started the day out right with Bible which is their first class on Monday and Thursday. The students are going through Exodus and fun fact: I am taking Exodus and Deuteronomy at the Institute! The next class of the day was The Need for Beads, a STEM class focused around the basics of measurement where students measure themselves and string in order to make jewelry in Accessorize class with Ms. Foster which is their last class of the day. After The Need for Beads is Tag, You’re It, a language arts class focused around textiles.
Tuesdays and Fridays bring a new theme, Life and Animal Science. These days are very cohesive and really build off of one another. On Tuesday their day started with Plants Around Me with Ms. Bennecker. We are very excited to welcome Ms. Bennecker into the Academy to share her expansive knowledge of plants, landscaping, and good ole life lessons. Students explored the campus discussing different plants and their functions along with the need to care for their environment. They visited the creek and picked up trash from it while Ms. Bennecker reiterated why God wants us to keep a clean and ordered environment.
Next in the day was Who Wants to be a Botanist? This is a class where students get to research different types of plants that interest them along with the plants they are going to be planting after the creation of planter boxes in their next class, Building a Home for Plants with Mr. Cameron. Tuesday and Friday end with Leaf the Drawing to Us with Ms. Foster. Students get to take what they researched in Botanist class and draw different plants. Below you will see a few of the students wonderful drawings.
While our Wednesday looked a little different than normal this week because of the half day on Friday, our Spiritual Development day includes chapel, Heroes of Faith, and 2 (!!) classes of Exploratory Hour which is always a kid favorite. Wednesdays are very special days that allow students to connect to the Lord as well as each other.
I’m really looking forward to this quarter and I think the students are too! I absolutely love teaching your wonderful children everyday and see it as a huge privilege. Thank You!
